Italian language courses in Fall Semester

During the Fall semester 2008 the University of Lugano will offer an Italian language study programme organized in four modules.
All non Italian-speaking USI students, researchers and professors are invited to participate free of charge.

1) Two preparative Intensive Courses for Absolute Beginners (A1) (starting from Unit 1):
When: 1 – 12 September 2008 (two weeks before begin of semester)
Where: room 254 and 354
Schedule: 60 hours during two weeks
Lecturers: Elena Pandolfi, Susanne Stigen Pescia and Wolfgang Sahlfeld

2) Absolute Beginners (A1) (starting from Unit 1):
When: 16 September – 18 December 2008 (Autumn Semester 2008)
Where: room 254
Schedule: 2 hours twice a week for a total number of 4 hours per week from 5.45 p.m. until 7.15 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Lecturer: Susanne Stigen Pescia

3) Beginners (A2) (starting from Unit 7):
When: 17 September – 17 December 2008 (Autumn Semester 2008)
Where: room 254
Schedule: 2 hours per week from 5.45 p.m. until 7.15 p.m., on Wednesdays
Lecturer: Elena Pandolfi

4) Intermediate Course (B1) (starting from Unit 12):
When: 18 September – 18 December 2008 (Autumn Semester 2008)
Where: room 354
Schedule: 2 hours per week from 5.45 p.m. until 7.15 p.m., on Thursdays
Lecturer: Elena Pandolfi

Ilze's thesis defense


Ilze has put forward a project proposal for communicating the cultural heritage of the Livs through digital technologies. The Livs, or Livonians, are an indigenous population in Latvia, with their peculiar language and culture.
Ilze's presentation was particularly impressive, as she brought together professional tenure and performance.
